Coming back from Ant Brooks’ Wired EP, Leaders Of The New School – a sublabel to Mark Knight’s prestigious Toolroom Records – brings aboard Florian Picasso, the Cannes residing DJ and producer currently looking to build his prime foundations, to feature his debut release. Influenced by some of the most distinctive sounds of 70’s and 80’s soaring disco scene and a modern-day take on groovy tech, this two track EP from the Frenchman constitutes the first digital concoction in a hopeful career ahead which is planned to contain collaborations with two of Gothenburg’s finest whizkid’s – Johan Wedel and Franz Novotny.
Headlined by Muki, the newest acquisition of Leaders Of The New School showcases an instant reminiscence of old school, only with a few tweaks to refine it into a behemoth worthy of preserving the intent of the Toolroom sublabel. Silky squeaks and traditional tech beats in conjunction with a repetitive disco crescendo of a break-down and memorable characteristics come together to form Muki – the more prominent of the two. Also consisting of How To Sing – a tech ditty also containing hints of disco, but with a repetitious “How To Sing” chant, funky and traditional piano sounds and an overall six minute of spot-on bliss – this trenchant package is rounded off nicely.
The ‘Muki EP’ is due out on December 12th via Leaders Of The New School. Forthcoming from Florian Picasso is also ‘That Drum’, which is set to be released as part of Joia’s 10 year anniversary compilation.
