Perhaps not in as memorable vein as the late Reggae legend known as Bob Marley, Benny Benassi’s part in popular music has been hard to avoid over the past decade. But having turned his hands to an uplifting take on The Temper Trap’s ‘Trembling Hands’ earlier this year, Marley and the Wailers unforgettable 1977 classic ‘Jammin’ is the next ambitious channel to which the Italian super producer extends his chart savvy club charm.
Balancing his characteristic synth work with the odd digression into the wobble orientated playbook of dub step, this coming of age crossover ticks the box of audacious while making a notable mark of quality on what was bound to be a controversial extension of his brave sensibilities. Old school pride aside, Benassi’s take on ‘Jammin’ suggests that while Dance music may be reverting back to the purer days of popular music, the transition can be done with considerable quality with producers as apt as this long serving Italian asset.
