A lot has changed on the popular music scene since Sting released ‘If I Ever Lose My Faith In You’ some 20 years ago. But in a tribute to the longserving British musician, the 50-year-old legend that is Carl Cox remixes The Scumfrog’s take on the ‘93 classic for a pace-setting 21st century remodel.
Ditching the original’s downtempo stylings for a 126BPM breeze over the timeless top line, Cox leads with relative consistency and stays somewhat true to the original qualities that made ‘If I Ever Lose My Faith In You’ such a coming-of-age classic. While the general consensus remains that the work of Sting should be left untouched, Cox’s nod to the 60-year-old Sting should be music to the ears of those who feared that Cox’s production dexterity had slipped over his many years on the beat.
