There is much that can be said about the current state of the majority of Dance music hitting the web on a daily basis. But never one to conform to the norm, Berlin’s Fritz Kalkbrenner continues to prove himself far from just the ‘other Kalkbrenner kid’ as he returns to follow up 2009’s ”Here Today Gone Tomorrow” with the release his long-awaited second studio album, ”Sick Travellin.”
Rife with rigid beats and warm melodics throughout, his new 13-track full-length is a collection of the smooth chords and sophisticated bass grooves that Fritz has become a beacon to. With the ‘hands in the air’ moments now so commonly associated with European Electronic music, there is evidently still time for the calm and collected movements that Kalkbrenner does all too well if this album is anything to go by. Despite not being as thoroughly diverse as one would’ve hoped, ‘Sick Travellin’ is a positive nod to the inimitable minimalistic charm that the German producer has encompassed over his years on the beat.
