His ascent to the status of cake-slinging entertainer may have balanced both positive and negative enthusiasm from the globe’s Dance music fans, but if his position as the 15th most popular DJ according to this year’s DJ Mag poll is any indication, it’s mainly been met by the former. But following up on his 2008 debut, Dim Mak head honcho Steve Aoki is back to score his second Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1.

Blasting through exclusive cuts from the likes of Deorro, Dzeko & Torres, Aoki himself and more, a slew of remixes for his own single output over the past year raises some potent stamina for the American globetrotter’s latest industrious venture. With highly anticipated collaborations alongside Knife Party, Angger Dimas and more on the way, Pete Tong’s prestigious airwaves make for no exception for this rapidly expanding American stronghold.

  • how the heck did this impostor get a essential mix and hardwell who is ranked as #6 in dj mag , is on a completely other level that aoki did not yet get a essential mix…

  • because as pete tong says at start of video they had great time in las vegas so he got drunk and aoki gave something(hmm no idea what) and got essential mix

  • Agreed. Not sure who thought a Steve Aoki essential mix was necesary…

  • I never understood aoki’s appeal. I don’t really think he adds anything to the songs. Like for example Steve jobs, I feel the Angger Dimas side of it. The same with Beat down and even for No beef with afrojack you really only listen to the dirty dutch.

Basically what I’m saying is that if you remove steve aoki from this songs you will think they would have been made by angger dimas in steve jobs and afrojack in no beef.

    way overrated

  • He is better throwing cakes than DJing.

  • Steve Aoki is the realest. You guys need to stop hating. Unless you are in the production room you can’t tallk about what went on inside.

  • Ahhh need Piledriver with Knife Party!!!

  • How come this dude is so popular. I dont get it at all. waste of time on the air if u ask me

  • Piledriver needs to be released asap!…. agreed with what some have said, there are quite a few dj’s i would much rather listen to then steve aoki… hardwell, tommy trash, madeon, knife party, zedd, porter robinson for example would put on a much more epic 2 hour mix then aoki… though the mix overall looks better than what i was expecting from him

  • Honestly, I don’t know a single Aoki track that is any good. All of his decent tracks are features with other people.

I am certain he is a great entertainer and knows how to sell stuff but an essential mix? Let alone #15 shows how ridiculous DJMag really is.

just my 2cents, that guy should not be this popluar

  • Aoki sucks… He just takes credit for the tracks of other producers! Let’s see: Warp 1.9 with Bloody beetroots (he didn’t do anything in this track! It’s just Warp 1977 with some minor changes); Tornado with Tiësto (The only thing good in this track is the melody and definitely it was Tiesto who did it); Turbulence with Laidback Luke and No Beef with Afrojack (I Have no doubts in this ones, typical laidback luke sound and the dirty dutch from afrojack) – with No Beef you don’t need a genius to make sure that aoki did nothing-; At last, he clearly took a lot of credit for the tommy trash remix of lady dadi- on the radio shows the mainstream people would say: ”OMG it’s the new steve aoki song!” And this just pisses me off! Steve Aoki is at #15 just by his looks and his charisma, ”it’s the asian jesus!”. And by the way, ALL of his single tracks suck balls!

  • I wouldn’t listen to this for less then $5k.
