The Recording Academy announced the nominations for the 81 categories at the 2013 Grammy Awards on prime-time TV last night, with three categories solely dedicated to the best and brightest in dance music over the past year.

Having won three out of the five categories he was nominated for at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards earlier this year, the 2013 Grammys sees Skrillex take the lead once again with three nominations, followed by Calvin Harris and Axwell at two respectively.

Dominating with 16 out of the 17 nominations, Sweden, North America, Australia and the UK are well represented throughout the dance categories. Deadmau5’s ”album title goes here” goes up against Kaskade, Steve Aoki, The Chemical Brothers and Skrillex for Best Dance/Electronica Album, Diplo gets a well-deserved nomination for Non-Classical Producer Of The Year and four world renowned acts compete for the title of Best Dance Recording alongside a questionable fifth nomination in Liechtenstein’s Al Walser. Capping things off, the nominations for Best Non-Classical Remixed Recording put Sweden and Australia in the spotlight, courtesy of ‘In My Mind’, ‘The Veldt’ and ‘Midnight City’.

The 55th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, February 10, 2013, at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

  • Who is al walser……?

  • Please tell me why ‘Wonderland’ is nominated?

Aoki is hardly any good on his own, I appreciate almost any type of music but his solo projects are really bad. His only decent tracks are so called collaborations…

  • Aoki, Skrillex, Kaskade… the Grammies disqualify themselves pretty well

  • Levels ! again….isnt levels getting to old to nominated. Glad to see prydz in there, i doubt he will win though

  • And why the fuck is aoki nominated, such a clown that dude. Fuck his album and put eric prydz album there instead

  • indeed eric prydz album or calvin harris even.. steve aoki album was total bs it sounds like a bad digestive system

  • I hope In My Mind will not win, not because I don’t like it, but because it’s not a remix, it’s just a MIX, edit… Just compare the original and the Ax mix and you’ll see what I mean.

M83 Eric Prydz Remix! So he does it again, makes a private remix, which gets an official release AND NOW it’s grammy nominated! Congratulations Mr Prydz.

The Veldt Tommy Trash Remix is huge as well, I still can’t decide for which of these two to vote for.

”And why the fuck is aoki nominated, such a clown that dude. Fuck his album and put eric prydz album there instead” Agreed.

  • Manu: Kaskades Fire & Ice is a great album, especially the ICE-mixes. Remove skrillex from that list and add Eric Prydz album, should be a no-brainer. Whenever Prydz releases an album he should win all possible awards tbh..

  • Btw, here’s some reading about that ”Al Walser” dude;

    http://www.house.net/blog/obscure-artist-lands-grammy-nomination-foul-play-suspected

    5/5 troll

  • Prydz album not nominated? Well hope that his M83 remix wins atleast

  • wtf bangarang isn’t an Album it’s an ep, totally different.

  • @Oakich I agree on In My Mind mate, but still it woudn’t be nearly the same tune or played as much as it was this year without little Ax’s magic ;) Axwell made it EPIC, clear and simple ;) And HOW THE FUCK LADI DADI REMIX by MR TRASH wasn’t even nominated…it’s the best remix this year by far !!! Also Eric Prydz Album not even nominated…?! These Grammy’s are half joke…

  • Tommy Trash remix of Ladi Dadi should be nominated instead of Veldt remix… Happy he is getting recognition though :)

  • Best Dance/Electronica Album:

The Chemical Brothers – Don’t Think
Only Deadmau5’s album is worthwile from the others, but even so, they are The Chemical Brothers for god’s sake!

    Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical:
Lie Down In Darkness (Photek Remix) & Midnight City (Eric Prydz Private Remix)
    A though choise, so both.

    Oh and, Diplo FTW!

Btw, the Pryda album was merely a compilation. But he is gonna release a full album soon. And Skrillex & Aoki shouldn’t be in that list for god’s sake. Since when Skrillex makes ”music” ?

  • Axwell didn’t do much on in my mind, there are far more better remixes that actually are remixed, this year. Aoki’s remix of pursuit of happiness for example

  • @ Sebastian yes but Aoki’s remix of Pursuit of happiness is old…
And I agree, Levels is too old !!! And some others tracks… In feb 2013 it will be useless.

  • Speaking about Lie Down In Darkness, its the Arno Cost Remix that should be nominated.

  • Zedd’s album.. Pryda’s compilation…

I like tommy’s remix of ”the veldt” but, as named in itunes, it’s just a ”short edit”.. Prydz deserves this grammy, but sadly he won’t win.. And Al Waeser… This grammy is a joke.. It started when David Guetta won a madonna remix against Axwell & Dirty South for ”Sweet Disposition”.

    Sad.

  • Dada Life Album!!!!

  • Nothing from other sub genres? No drum & bass or nu disco or house or deep house or electronica or chill out or tech house or techno etc.? Why? I’ll tell you why, because america doesn’t give a shite about the less well-known genres but only the big hits and shit. There have been many hits in the aforementioned sub-genres. It’s always the same old stuff. If they want dance music to be popular then they should nominate the REAL music that’s not driven by capitalist marketing.
Respect to Pryda’s nomination and perhaps kaskade? Perhaps.
Steve Aoki? He can eat a dick.

  • wtf? wasnt levels, fire and ice and bangarang released in 2011?
and i’m pretty sure they were nominated last year
Eric Prydz should win all awards! best remix for m83 best album and best record: Allein,Every Day or any other tracks he released this year

  • silly

  • Prydz album should be nominated… these nominations are so shitty -.-
