Avicii’s first sold-out performance at Stockholm’s Globe Arena proved a memorable homecoming for the Swedish superstar for both good and bad reasons. Committing the first show to his younger fans, the sold-out event saw fans as young as 13 gather to celebrate his accession to the ranks of universal EDM icon.

After a well-received opening set from Alexander Adstedt, Stockholm’s Sebjak took to the stage. Already accredited by the likes of EMI and Steve Angello’s Size Records, there was something considerably apt in the addition of hometown heretic to Avicii’s momentous return. Though the crowd were slow to open up to his initial musical manoeuvres, the solid melodic flow of his meticulous studio output was not entirely lost on the younger crowd. Leading with a host of new tracks, including the forthcoming release ‘Follow Me’, a somewhat inconsistent roar from the crowd kept the young Swede afloat for his biggest hometown appearance to date.

Captivating the crowd with as dynamic an opening as they come, Cazzette were out to show their Swedish peers just what has earned them their inauguration to the At Night family. Launching into their own remix of Dada Life’s ‘Rolling Stone T-shirt’, there was a sense of total control surrounding their expertly deployed set of heavy-handed Electro House. Pummelling the arena with Electronic cuts of a rock star persuasion, the fluttering between their bread and butter Electro cuts and inadvertent Dub Step drops was the perfect accompaniment to a set which scaled so many avenues within their genre.

There is a lot to be said for the streak of luck Tim Bergling has had of late. Where on the one hand his universal appeal has soared to an all time high, a backdrop of ill fate has followed the Swedish star. Thus when a VIP platform of the arena collapsed two-stories, taking 30 people with it in the process, what should have been a positive homecoming was promptly turned into a desperate scenario for all involved. Avicii’s set was predictable at best, but ticked all the right boxes as far as his younger fans were concerned. While the immediate roar of adoration for ‘Levels’ masked the ensuing chaos above, you would struggle to argue with the energy that ignited this 10,000 strong crowd of young fans who would otherwise be lost to the realms of Electronic Dance Music. Dropping forthcoming singles ‘Nicktim’ and ‘Silhouettes’ to the avail of a crowd who evidently hadn’t done their homework, the ardent reaction from every attendee was enough to highlight that Avicii is still an unfathomable force in Electronic Dance Music.

The cancelation of Friday night’s second show threw us promptly on to Stockholm’s Ambassadeur for an off-the-cuff performance from the second day’s supporting artists Henrik B and David Tort. With an output extending from Axtone to Defected, David Tort took to the stage ahead of Henrik B for a blast of some essential cuts from the Spanish House kingpin. Where ‘One Look’ proved to still be an instant crowd pleaser, his extended flow of Progressive vibes certainly set the scene for a promising after party given the events of the night.    Fresh of the mark from a spate of global escapades, Henrik B was on epic form for his warm-up show for the second day of Avicii’s homecoming at the Globe Arena. Diving straight in to an eclectic bag of productions from across the spectrum, his overt enthusiasm and sterling programming skills were enough to muster a considerable stir from the thinning crowds. Between his new single ‘Leave A Light On’ and his divergent take on Avicii’s ‘Levels’, there was a considerable edge of quality to his performance. Though some may have questioned the mainstream content of his after party slot, his ability to seamlessly cut between genres while still imposing a cohesive flow of floor fuel shone a light for Henrik Berntsson throughout his performance.
