With New York’s Lana Del Rey already reigning in as one of the most commonly remixed pop assets over the past year, Miami-based producer Cedric Gervais is next in line to take on the darker pop stylings of ‘Summertime Sadness’ for Dutch label Spinnin’ Records.

Where previous official remixes of the song have showcased the less commercial side of Dance music, Gervais turns his head for the more mainstream shores to lay down a euphoric, synth-laden number of the indie-pop queen’s latest single.

On the remnants of the free publicity of Madonna’s verbal mishaps at this year’s Ultra Music Festival in Miami, Cedric Gervais‘ controversially named ‘Molly‘ is given an extended shelf life courtesy of a heavyset remix from Holland’s Quintino.

Ditching the bleeps that pervaded his recent Wall Recordings release alongside Moti, Quintino swaps the acid backdrop of the Gervais original for fist-pumping moments and churning builds to complement the tedious vocal line. In spite of lacking in overall originality, Quintino’s spooky synths and hard-hitting beat work make for a crunchy remodel of Gervais’ stead out of the industry’s favourite narcotics cliché.

Straying reassuringly far away from the controversy surrounding its much talked about predecessor, provocatively entitled ‘Molly‘, ‘Cedanie’ continues the Miami residing tune monger’s streak of considerably heavier productions.

First premiered amid his 15 minutes of fame spot on Pete Tong in April and despite being reminiscent of Calvin Harris’ ‘Awooga‘, ‘Cedanie’s tectonic builds and multifaceted melodic progressions mesh into a gem of stadium-esque proportions. Opposing the sound showcased throughout his recently released second artist album for Ultra, ‘Cedanie’ plays perfectly into the hands of the elegant festival cuts that have become something of a calling card to the summer clubbing season thus far.

Madonna may have used this track as an excuse for her verbal mishaps at this years UMF, but utilising the free publicity with a hasty release, Cedric Gervais returns to Spinnin Records with the controversially named ‘Molly’. While the drug references may fail to be totally subliminal within Gervais’ latest single, what the track lacks in subtle messaging it makes up for in consistent force and indisputable energy. Donning an acid backdrop to its somewhat tedious vocal line, the scattered melodic charges and building rhythmic slurs make for a very different musical canvas to Gervais’ usual studio output. But given a successful test run during his set at UMF and already boasting a raunchy music video, it seems fair to say that the Miami based floor filler has made good stead out of the industry’s favourite narcotics cliché.
