With global club land relishing in his relinquished studio output, TV Rock’s Grant Smillie has looked set on excelling the Australian scene of late. Joined by Sydney’s Walden and one of the country’s most promising vocal assets to date, the Aussie heavyweight returns to his own Neon Records for the release of ‘A Million Lights’.

Armed with the formidable topline talents of Aussie pop songstress Zoë Badwi, the track’s somewhat cheesy undertone is not enough to draw the light away from the strong melodic properties that pervade ‘A Million Lights’. While fellow Aussie duo Feenixpawl extend their melodic charm with a key-driven take on the original that ascends into their notably uplifting play book, DCUP makes for the most distinct remix with a lick of vintage flare for his own funky remodel from outside of the Electronic Dance comfort zone. With the addition of Alex van Alff’s rhythmically refined Tech House stylings for the finale of this remix package, Smillie and Walden appear to have established another firm indicator that the universal club bug has not been wasted on our peers Down Under.

With their debut release on Axtone, ‘In My Mind‘ still doing the rounds, Aden Forte and Josh Soon, better known as Feenixpawl, return with a brand-new mix for FG Radio USA. Showcasing their fairly broad musical preferences, the down-under duo collect tracks from across the spectrum for a 61 minute mix of tech, progressive and electro alike. In addition to featuring two brand-new reworks of theirs, the mix also includes the likes of Thomas Gold’s ‘Fanfare‘, Third Party’s Loleatta Holloway-sampled ‘Thank You‘ and more.

Given the ease to which Flo Rida found means to desecrate Ivan Gough and Feenixpawl’s ‘In My Mind’, its remix duties were always going to be met with a hint of scrutiny. But facing this outright anthem for 2012 like a man possessed, 18-year-old Aussie hopeful Walden is the second to give ’In My Mind‘ a formal remix following his own spree of duties for Cobra Starship and Rebecca and Fiona alike.

While the original was always going to be a tough cut to follow, Walden’s deep Progressive lead work and overbearing beats make for a comfortable extension of the Aussie collective’s seminal outing. Still relishing in the distinct vocal stylings of Georgi Kay, the uplifting remodel breaths a fresh breeze of festival sensibility into an otherwise untarnished landmark for Australian Dance music and Axwell’s Axtone Records alike.

Having survived Beatport infamy and a shameful remodel by Flo Rida, August sees Big Beat and Axtone unleash the long overdue official music video to Axwell’s mix of Ivan Gough, Feenixpawl and Georgi Kay’s ‘In My Mind‘. Based on the road tripping antics of four female longboarders across the sunny Stateside of California in a Kia with the occasional ”shred,” the video flashes back on what appears to be some of the dreams and love shared between a group of longterm friends. Despite not quite hitting in on the epic properties of what you may expect from a half-year-late video, the sharp editing and beautiful landscapes make up a fitting visual accompaniment to the acclaimed Axtone release.

Beatport chart toppers and unfathomable musical moments aside, young Aussie House outfit Feenixpawl have received something of an industrious epiphany since the eruption of their breakthrough Axtone release ‘In My Mind’. To celebrate hitting the 25,000 fan mark on Facebook, the duo dish out another supreme vocal club moment in the form of a free download of their remix duties for Ellie Goulding’s ‘Lights’.

Extending the same magic that saw Max Vangeli and AN21 champion her divine topline for their take on ‘Starry Eyed’, Feenixpawl drive a firm Progressive backbone of clean melodic leads to bring the British pop sensation’s beautiful voice back to club land once again. As a comprehensive indicator of the purer energy that the controversial club/pop crossover can conjure, those in fear of the Aussie duo becoming yet another one hit wonder of modern Dance music need look no further for proof of their promising studio stamina.

While the Axwell mix has by fans and DJs alike been rated one of the hottest progressive anthem of the year thus far, there has been something of a mysterious buzz surrounding whenever the original of Ivan Gough and Feenixpawl’s ‘In My Mind’ was to enter the limelight. Returning for round two, the original mix of ‘In My Mind’ is out and it’s sounding, well, a bit different yet very similar to Axwell’s previously released version.

While it may upon first listen be hard to truly comprehend the actual differences between the original and Axwell’s acclaimed take, there are indeed a few. The most notable differences are probably the arrangement of Georgi Kay’s divine top line in the second interlude, the length of the second drop and the outro, but despite the original actually holding the cooler arrangement of the two, what makes Axwell’s version stand out more is not the reduced length or the simpler arrangement but its increased quality in sound and production.

The Australian foursome should be given eulogy for bringing one of the most infectious tracks of the year thus far to the table and despite the fact that Axwell’s edit will most likely still be the more acknowledged version by the end of the year, the original’s more unique approach makes it worth a listen and purchase.
