Outside of his part in whacky House tag-team Duck Sauce, Montreal’s A-Trak is not only the DJ’s DJ, but an impressively outgoing asset of musical differentiation. Joined by Tommy Trash, GTA, Galantis, and Oliver, Alain Macklovitch follows up his remix of ‘Misunderstanding‘ with a diverse four-track EP titled ‘Tuna Melt’.
With a sound scope ranging from the chugging chord play of title track ‘Tuna Melt’ to the trap stylings of ‘Landline’ to the pitch-defying leads and burly low-end riffage of ‘Jumbo’ and ‘Disco Nap’, the ‘Tuna Melt’ EP marks not only a collection of some of the most interesting collaborations of late, but an unorthodox shot of hope for the dance music scene.
Outside of his part in whacky House tag-team Duck Sauce, Montreal’s A-Trak is not only the DJ’s DJ, but an impressively outgoing asset of musical differentiation. Joined by Galantis, the side project of Style of Eye, Carli and Karlsson of Miike Snow, the quartet up the ante for a creative cross-nation stomper in ‘Jumbo’.
Teeming with pitch-defying leads and burly low-end riffage that scream nostalgic rave culture, Galantis and A-Trak mark their return with an unorthodox shot of hope for the prevalent genre. Far from your atypical club cut, the Swedish-American collective’s dark and transient get up breaths new and unexpected life into the genre now on everyone’s agenda for the post-summer season.
Update (27/11): ‘Jumbo’ is out on December 4th.
The side project of Style of Eye, Carli and Miike Snow’s Christian Karlsson known as Galantis return to Miike Snow’s Karlsson and Winnberg’s Robotberget imprint for round two with yet another Pete Tong-approved club gem. In a blend of haunting lead work and momentous peak time energy, Galantis follow up the free release of ‘Tank‘ with the equally unique ‘Raveheart’. Straying reassuringly far away from the tiring discussions on all things mainstream, ‘Raveheart’ is as indicative of the true potential of modern Dance music as it is the quality of music currently on offer amid the genre’s most prolific year to date.
Update: The official video has been released.
Just when you thought Electro had reached its creative peak, the side project of Style of Eye, Carli & Karlsson Galantis drop onto the radar of Miike Snow’s Karlsson and Winnberg’s Robotberget imprint with a formative nod to the expanding dimensions of this oversubscribed sub-genre.
Gaining the support of Pete Tong on his Essential Selection show and Tommy Trash alike, this unique freebie drives deep into the mechanical realms of modern club mastery. Laced with grinding chords and an array of pitch-pervading lead work, ‘Tank’ lives up to its name as one of the more robustly charged outings of adrenaline fuelled Electro to touch upon the industry for a while.
