Off the back of the hotly tipped ‘Bango’ with Prok & Fitch earlier this year, Marco Lys makes his way back to Great Stuff Recordings and the realms of straight-laced grooves with ‘The Underground’ alongside Michael Gray.

In addition to the hypnotic samples, concise rhythmic persuasions and acid-esque sound that pervade the original version, the release also includes a remix from Federico Scavo who gives the track a considerably thicker feel. In a genre that is too often dismissed as back-to-back beat tracks, Lys and Gray provide a release that instils a strong degree of enthusiastic energy for tech house music.

Despite countless attempts, few have successfully turned the all-time classic ‘Walk Like An Egyptian’ into an all-out Tech House affair with as much momentous achievement as Prok & Fitch and Marco Lys. Making their way back to Tomcraft’s Great Stuff Recordings, the Brighton duo unites with label regular and Italian beat smith Lys to set in motion the anticipation for Miami Music Week 2013 early with ‘Bango.’ Pitting exotic beat work alongside the instantly recognizable sample from The Bangles’ 1986 hit, ‘Bango’ starts off the New Year right for the British-Italian trio with a track that instils a strong degree of enthusiasm for Tech House that works as well in a club as it does a beach.

With Axwell, Avicii and Dirty South all tuned in to their studio output courtesy of ‘From The Dust’ and ‘Critical’, the follow-up to the latter sees eclectic Italy duo Phunk Investigation reunite with partner-in-crime Schuhmacher for an equally impressive second release for Germany’s Great Stuff Recordings.

Rife with mesmerizing rhythmic progressions and uplifting melodic charm, ‘Miracle’ sees them return to the energetic House stylings we have come to associate with this Italian/Swiss collective. Despite Dino Lenny not quite hitting the same superb notes now associated with the London vocalist, the energetic instrumental work is enough to make up yet another belter for a year that has Phunk Investigation and Schuhmacher’s names written all over it.

A definite taste-maker in the tech house scene, Tomcraft’s Great Stuff Recordings’ ‘quality-over-quantity’ approach has never proven anything but a winning formula amidst the industry’s most lucrative state thus far. But however attempting to drop the ultimate soundtrack for the summer season, Great Stuff release episode four of their “Grooves” compilation series, featuring a remarkable 14 tech-oriented cuts.

Blazing through a selection from the likes of Ant Brooks, Christian Cambas, NDKj, Sergio Fernandez amongst others, Italy’s Marco Lys unites with Hoxton Whores and Hurr for a Pleasurekraft-esque contribution. Teeming with chunky kicks and playful, vocal-sounding lead play, ‘Novosibirisk’ acts as something of a stellar asset to the Munich-based imprint’s latest offering, still leaving plenty of room for the Balearic groove of Rob Mirage’s ‘New Jack Funk’ and others to help make up one of Great Stuff’s most consistent compilations to date.

As the master of 1605 and an inherent ambassador to Slovenian Techno, Umek returns to Tomcraft’s Great Stuff Recordings alongside homeland peer and familiar label asset Mike Vale with ‘Chosen’.

Fuelling the track with a fatal concoction of deep grooves and minimalistic lead work, ‘Chosen’ is as chunky and rhythmically refined as you would expect from such a strong collaborative duo. Laced with distant vocal samples and churning bass manoeuvres throughout, this double-threat Slovenian endeavour is a prime example of why traditional House is still worth pursuing amid the somewhat stateside biased 21st century Electronic music explosion.
