Following the heyday of Detroit House music in the 80s, it was to great delight that the legend that is Kevin Saunderson returned to the forefront for a release alongside Inner City on Simon Dunmore’s Defected Records late last year. Though it was the original mix that was given the heaviest support on the airwaves and dance floors alike, Kenny Larkin’s groove-educed ‘Tension’ remix has been far more than just another runner-up, also seeing steady support from BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong. Where the Larkin remix’s vocal work was a bit too much at times, this second remix package of ‘Future’ offers us an alternative version on behalf of James Talk. Switching the increasingly irritating vocal loops for Inner City’s soulful vocal lines, the slightly and essentially edited James Talk version helps this else outstanding instrumental to make another go on the global charts.
