Coming back from Ant Brooks’ Wired EPLeaders Of The New School – a sublabel to Mark Knight’s prestigious Toolroom Records – brings aboard Florian Picasso, the Cannes residing DJ and producer currently looking to build his prime foundations, to feature his debut release. Influenced by some of the most distinctive sounds of the 70’s and 80’s soaring disco scene and a modern-day take on groovy tech, this two track EP from the Frenchman constitutes the first digital concoction in a hopeful career ahead which is planned to contain collaborations with two of Gothenburg’s finest whizkid’s – Johan Wedel and Franz Novotny.

Headlined by Muki, the newest acquisition of Leaders Of The New School showcases an instant reminiscence of old school, only with a few tweaks to refine it into a behemoth worthy of preserving the intent of the Toolroom sublabel. Silky squeaks and traditional tech beats in conjunction with a repetitive disco crescendo of a break-down and memorable characteristics come together to form Muki – the more prominent of the two. Also consisting of How To Sing – a tech ditty also containing hints of disco, but with a repetitious ”How To Sing” chant, funky and traditional piano sounds and an overall six minute of spot-on bliss – this trenchant package is rounded off nicely.

Moving on from Mark Knight’s charitably released remix of Florence and the Machine’s You’ve Got The LoveToolroom Records picks up Ant Brooks to represent their Leaders Of The New School department, going in the footprints of Filthy Rich’s recent compilation. As his Christmas re-edit of Superstylin remains a firm headliner of himself, it seems we’ve got two additional favourite’s on our hands. We’re no strangers to the fact that Toolroom is outstanding when it comes to unearth the best out of tech and all its relatives and Brooks’ new offerings are another two smashes to add to their vast discography. With the assistance of a solid groove and dubbed vocals, Wired and Talkin Bout You are certain to be a recognized couple of trademarkers for Brooks’ name from now on.
