Having seen Steve Angello bring us Size TV last month, the record label of Mark Knight is the next in line to get themselves their very own TV series. Besides high-quality video footage, Toolroom TV will also be going behind the scene to bring fans exclusive interviews with Dj’s and producers of Toolroom’s artist roster.
In episode 1, Toolroom Records flashes back on 2011 for a 26 minute HD video of memorable moments and a string of past and forthcoming releases off the label, including Mark Knight’s soon-to-be-released single ‘Nothing Matters,’ featuring Skin. After travelling to Ibiza to shed light on the Toolroom closing party at Space and a chat with Pioneer bedroom DJ competition winner Simon Ambrose, it’s back to London for Toolroom Knight’s massive fifth birthday party at Brixton Academy. Finishing things off, the momentous Amsterdam Dance Event enters the limelight, bringing us footage of Toolroom’s party at Escape and exclusive interviews with a few significant characters within the industry.
Episode 2 is scheduled for the end of June and will feature an extensive interview with Fedde le Grand and more.

Still ablaze from the notoriously fierce remix of Florence and the Machine’s ‘You’ve Got The Love’, Volume two of his ‘Bullets’ EP series extends the distinction that was conjured by last year’s debut instalment. Where soulfully tuned A-side ‘Alright’ shows off Knight’s gritty yet melodically refined studio dexterity with an intense injection of subtly distorted leads, ‘Together’ reels in the exotic poolside appeal that Toolrom have become all-too adept in providing amid their global romps. Always leading with quality over quantity, volume two of this infamous series of EPs fails to disappoint and is a reassuring indicator that Britain’s sharpest House veteran is still at large for 2012.
Mark Knight – Bullets EP Volume 2 [Toolroom Records] – Beatport Link
Words by Dan Carter

As far as European festivals go, they don’t come more highly anticipated than Sensation. With a common theme of white and an array of the hottest properties in Electronic Dance Music, its first outing for 2012 at Hasselt’s Ethias Arena is streaming live for those unlucky enough to miss this silky landmark experience in larger-than-life clubbing. Playing host to the likes of Dutch heavyweights Sander van Doorn and the paparazzi pushing House maverick Afrojack, Toolroom Records’ own Mark Knight will further share the bill with Swedish peers of the Electro persuasion Dada Life to top a truly remarkable line-up of universal talents. Kicking off with formidable white-faced resident Mr. White and infamous tag team Daniel Sanchez and Juan Sanchez, there is no excuse to miss the globally acclaimed energy of this landmark event this weekend as it prepares to take America for the first time later this year.

Mark Knight has always been a man with a great sense for what’s a hit and what’s not. With the timeless remodel of Florence and the Machine’s ‘You’ve Got The Love‘ on his resumé, this Toolroom label head continues to flaunt his immaculate production knack, previewing the second volume of his Bullets EP series which launched last year with ‘Devils Walking’ and ‘Sax’. Where these new Miami- and Ibiza contenders may not hold the same classic elements as the aforementioned remix, both ‘Alright’ and ‘Together’ are as enchanting as they come. With ‘Alright’ leading this EP with a slightly distorted lead, perfectly complemented by a soulful vocal line, the B-side’s ‘Together’ plays the role as an essential poolside tune with it’s exotic appeal. Though Knight may not be a man of great quantity, this new EP plays testament to his take on what it all comes down to in the end – quality.

Founded in 2000, Sensation White has soared into an immersed, sought-after event, world renowned to human kind. What started out as a trance event later emerged into the House scene, hosting some of clubland’s grandest DJ’s. Having become the Bentley’s of all DJ event’s by touring across the globe for years, they’re now stopping by at the Parken Stadium venue in Copenhagen, Denmark with a remarkable row of DJ’s on board. Sensation’s resident MC Gee voices the vast venue with his spiritual throat along with the acclaimed artists’ touting of their beloved anthems.
By all means being a successfully made up warm-up pseudonym for the Sensation events, Mr. White brings us the hottest tech and deep tunes in preparation for the headlining live acts to hit the decks.
The headlining DJ’s of the third edition of Sensation’s all-new ‘Innerspace‘ concept and their final event of the year, due to the unfortunate cancellation of the annually held New Year’s event in Germany, are by far a bunch of intriguing icons of electronic dance music. Following the Denmark resident and up-and-coming DJ Flip is the label honcho of Toolroom Records and a firm protagonist on everything tech house, Mark Knight. Responsible for what may very well be the greatest tech anthem of all time – the unremitting remix on You’ve Got The Love – and a string of major hits alongside Manuel De La Mare, Tiësto, Funkagenda and others, the man from Maidstone is undoubtedly a performer to be sure catching chanting his prestigious liking of nothing but the best. Brought back to make their third appearance in the main room of Sensation White are Daniel Sanchez and Juan Sanchez, followed by France’s highly successful hit-smith, Martin Solveig, returning from the recent release of Big In Japan (with Dragonette and Idoling). And last but surely not least, the Dutch wunderkid who debuted at #24 in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJ’s poll this year, Hardwell, whom is topical with the hit single crowned the official anthem of Energy, The Network in 2012 – Cobra.

Like last year’s escapades are Toolroom now embellishing the Fall of 2011 with the second issue of their characteristic Amsterdam Dance Event compilation. Having the fifth anniversary of their Toolroom Knights shows in full swing and a year of countless triumphs behind them, the Maidstone-based release platform comes off months of spectacular endeavours that includes the releases of DJ Boris’ I Can’t Wait, Fedde Le Grand’s Metrum and So Much Love singles and Mark Knight’s own Beautiful World and the charitably released remix on You’ve Got The Love to present us the massive, new compilation, which comprises a whooping 10 previously unreleased hit singles from numerous wildly recognized producers.
The headlining position falling into favour of label honcho Mark Knight and Manuel De La Mare’s Snapshot, made up by the highly-prosperous and popular fluctuation in between big room synth chords and twisted, but solid tech beats, the distinguished John Dahlback also returns to the label for the follow-up to the single from Toolroom’s first Ibiza compilation this year – Work It Out. Having defined himself as a producer of the highest notch with his throbbing and uniquely knitted records, Dahlback shows his skillful and creative production ability yet again as the progressive chord array of Phoenix is released as the more harmonic piece of the Amsterdam-tributed, tech-dominated collection of anthems.
Brought back to fire away a 2011 rework out of his tremendous drum and piano-driven Marsch Marsch single from last Fall is Thomas Gold, whom is currently riding on the infectious wave of positive vibes from his recent Alive single alongside Dirty South. Ever the mastermind of club gems, the rise of Gold, that was initiated with the launch of What’s Up (with Alex Kenji) in post-summer of 2010, has literally been indispensable. Merely a few months after his aforementioned instalment on Spinnin Records, the inspiring German could proudly showcase his release marathon that included nothing but full-on hits such as Areena, AGORa, the remix on We Want Your Soul and the Toolroom piece, which is now well on its way back to make another go at a pole positioning on the charts. Not only was 2010 a complete and utter success for the golden producer, but as this year was kicked off massively with the outing of his monstrous remix on Blow Up with Axwell, the expectations from all progressive-house heads as to whether his talent was sufficient enough to establish him amongst the very forefronters of clubland. And now, a bare 8 months and prominent remixes of Lady Gaga’s Judas, Reach Out and Set Fire To The Rain later, Gold contemporizes one of his first break-through singles which is still being supported strongly by the likes of the entire Swedish House Mafia into a killer cut, hard to equal. Having the storming and long-anticipated Sing 2 Me release coming up on Axtone, the Disney-inspired drum lines and common synth filled chords are pulled out and back in the game.
To round off the Toolroom’s essential 2011 pick in preparation for the Holland festival in late October, Koen Groeneveld provides his Dutch tech twist with Richard Dinsdale instilling some disco tinged house. Stefano Noferini, D Ramirez, Rene Amesz, Filthy Rich and Alex Kenji cover the groovier side of Toolroom to complete a peerless package of huge ADE hits and future chart-toppers.
