With the weather on the side of the 24,000 strong crowd gathered in Stockholm, day one of the second leg of Sweden’s Summerburst Festival saw it’s perfect weather matched by a ‘who’s who’ line-up of sterling Dance artists.

Hitting the stage just after 3pm, Stockholm’s own Sebjak comfortably took to stage to formally launch the festival’s line-up. Armed with his recent vocal outing ‘Follow Me’, the young Swede pushed through a strong set of Progressive gems for the somewhat thin crowd. Fresh off the heels of his debut compilation for Axtone and a blistering appearance at EDC Las Vegas, Germany’s Thomas Gold had few excuses not to bring his A-Game to Stockholm. Soaring through a host of personal edits and mash-ups alongside the multitude of high-end remixes that ornamented his compilative duties, Gold’s creative approach to live House music was not wasted upon the crowds at Summerburst.

Renowned for his abillity to float seamlessly between outright crowd pleasers to dignified club gems, young Dutch maverick Nicky Romero remained as dexterous as ever in yet another firm extension of his festival charm. Between collaborative highlights alongside David Guetta and Avicii, his juggling of the genres more heavyset avenues was music to the ears of the thickening crowd. Having set the standard for his nations House minded elite, young Ingrosso protégé Alesso then received something of a heroes welcome from the steadily rising crowd in Stockholm. Trailing through a divergent set of peak timers and skilful mash-ups, the Swede signed off with his own triumphant remix of Keane’s ‘Silenced By The Night’ and the now chart-raking Ingrosso collaboration ‘Calling (Lose My Mind) to emphasise just how far he and his EDM leaning nation have come over the past two years of definitive genre contribution.

Given the standard of his headline action at the Gothenburg leg of Summerburst, Axwell’s second homeland festival outing this month was never going to be played down. Providing a strong Axtone spin on his relatively open-minded set, the crowd were evidently engulfed by the enigmatic presence of one of the country’s most sought after House associates on offer. While the brief interludes of Swedish House Mafia material did not go unnoticed, his ongoing plight to bring worthy new talent to the table saw his set engage the best of EDM’s rising protagonists for a landmark homeland appearance.

As one of the original European festival DJs and a formative presence amid the genre’s explosion, the now Stockholm residing Tiësto looked as comfortable as ever as he took to the stage to sign-off day one of Summerburst. Balancing the best cuts from his renowned Club Life Volume Two: Miami compilation and his own multitude of productions, the Dutch icon’s ability to fuse radio friendly notions into epic festival moments made for a distinctive climax from a man well accustomed to the biggest movements in Electronic music.

Despite a notable turn in the good fortuned weather mustered by day one of Summerburst, round two of the Stockholm leg made up for the notable lull with a strong line-up of artists. Without letting the thinner crowds effect their earlier set time, Swedish newcomers Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman took to the stage just after 2pm to extend their festival experience with a worthy set of their own forthcoming material. Followed promptly by Copenhagen’s Morten Breum and hometown front runners Nause, returning Swedish contender Adrian Lux made light of his omission from the formal line-up in Gothenburg with accustomed force. Armed with a host of melodic highlights from his self-titled album for Ultra Records, a sense of national pride resonated throughout this well-overdue festival appearance from the young face of emotive Progressive House. Taking to the stage just after 6pm, Holland’s rising festival tag-team Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano educated Stockholm as to just why they have been present at every major EDM festival on offer. Jumping from Tech induced beat work to their hip shaking Progressive stylings, the Dutch duos intense set did not quite capture the strong reaction that their global legacy has mustered.

Next up was chart-hopping Scot Calvin Harris, a man immediately familiar with European festival etiquette. Between a collection of floor-filling gems and his own radio friendly offerings alongside Example and Kelis, Harris provided an unassuming mainstream charm that left few arms out of the air for the duration of his set.

There could have been few prouder returns to the homeland than day two’s first instalment of headline action from dignified Progressive master Sebastian Ingrosso. In what Ingrosso himself dubbed to be his best individual gig ever, his sign-off with Swedish House Mafia’s ‘Save The World’ would see fellow mafia man Axwell take to the stage to announce the trios Swedish debut performance at Stockholm’s Friends Arena on November 24, throwing the 24,000 strong crowd into a final celebratory sing-along. Despite Ingrosso’s stealing of the show, French chart monger David Guetta remained an exciting sign-off for the successful summer event. Throwing an array of IDs into the mix alongside a collection of festival favourites and chart-worthy contenders, Guetta’s safe yet solid set proved a worthy final note, but remained untouched by the excitement caused by the aforementioned announcement of Sweden’s returning House veterans that made Summerburst in Stockholm 2012 all the more memorable.

While the torrential rain may not have signalled the perfect start to the summer for Sweden, day one of Summerburst Festival in Gothenburg suffered little as far as the quality of its acts was concerned. First to take on the harrowing weather was Belgian festival favourites Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike. Taking to the stage just after 3pm, the brotherly duo ploughed through their less than ideal set-time to provide an intense run of mash-ups and homegrown favourites to the early-rising crowd. Armed with a host of his own renowned studio offerings and remixes, Australian Electro maverick Tommy Trash then donned an eclectic set of hard-hitting Electro gems to the weekends proceedings, reeling in the unfathomable attention his studio offerings have mustered throughout 2012. Following on with notably sombre stage presence, Scotland’s Calvin Harris balanced his own mainstream capabilities alongside a fine selection of festival-friendly offerings and eclectic mash-ups throughout though could have benefited from a pinch of physical enthusiasm.

With the crowds finally reaching a peak in energy and enthusiasm, outright Swedish master Axwell provided a strong set of relatively unsurprising substance for the festivals first headline spot. Jumping from stone-cold classics to modern Axtone favourites, the labels next instalment from Hard Rock Sofa and Swanky Tunes ‘Here We Go’ fuelled a large surge of enthusiasm from the packed-out gathering. Following on from Axwell was never going to be an easy challenge, but fellow countryman and EMI signed Sebjak certainly wasn’t showing any signs of festival anxiety. Leading with a host fresh material and his forthcoming vocal mix of ‘Follow Me’, the Stockholmer called upon Sandro Silva and Quintino’s ‘Epic’ to wrap up a promising set while engineers prepared the stage for Deadmau5′ cubic production. Now more accustomed to the festival crowds than the vast majority of his peers, Joel Zimmerman was the final apex of day one of Summerburst’s headline action. Hitting home his outside of the box approach to live Dance music and stunning visuals with a weird yet ever wonderful set, his adventurous Electro stylings were well received from the outset. Opting for the element of surprise over outright musical intensity, his concoction of new edits and technically tuned favourites proved, in spite of the miserable backdrop, the perfect sign-off for day one of the event.

Where day two of Summerburst beckoned a notable improvement on both the weather and overall sound, its impressive line-up followed suit. By far one of the best received artists of the weekend, Swedish duo Nause relished in their public adoration to draw a considerably thick crowd despite their earlier set time. After an off-the-cuff appearance from Danish star Morten Breum, 2manyDJs emerged smartly dressed and eclectic in both style and energy, dropping some notably heavyset Techno gems into the equation while throwing the crowd down memory lane with Boys Noize & Erol Alkan’s  ‘Lemonade’ to drive home an impressive yet sadly not so well received set from the Belgian duo.

As far as whacky Electro House is concerned, Dada Life could hardly be rivalled on today’s bill. Armed with inflatable letters and stunning visuals, their ability to sample from across the musical spectrum and audacity to wear Justin Beiber masks while playing their remix of ‘Boyfriend’ made for a light-hearted yet legitimately epic outing for the homeland Electro duo. Having excelled his status as Sweden’s best-kept secret, Alesso remained as well received as ever on the home territory. Despite a mixing slip-up, the talented Swede donned a host of new tracks to what was otherwise a strong performance for the festival-proof producer.

With a track record for both unfathomable success and considerable bad luck where his live appearances are concerned, Dance superstar Avicii would find both elements at play for his headline slot at Summerburst. Despite starting with his familiar routine of solid melodic offerings, Albin Myers’ ‘Hells Bells’ saw Avicii’s CDJ give up the ghost and leave the stage flooded with silence for an awkward minute. But dealing with the slip-up as efficiently as could be expected, Tim Bergling picked up the pieces to deliver a rich set of comparatively fresher club cuts to that of his atypical DJ sets, climaxing with a heartrending surge of fireworks and his breakthrough hit ‘Levels’ to sign off the first instalment of Summerburst for 2012.

For all the excitement surrounding the European festival season, the second leg of Sweden’s Summerburst festival in Stockholm looks set to steal the show for the renowned nation of enigmatic House music. While headline action from Tiësto and Axwell on the Friday is sure to muster some formidable crowds, SVT2 will show close to four hours of the festivals high-profile line-up, including the sets of David Guetta and Sebastian Ingrosso, live on Swedish television, starting Saturday June 16th 20:45 CET. Luckily, for those of you residing abroad, the telecast will simultaneously also be available at svt.se/psl, with a 30 day access to replay coming to you courtesy of svtplay.se after the telecast.

Modern technology may have taken the art of DJing to new levels, but the involvement of a live telecast through national television makes for a notable first for Electronic Dance Music.

Update: SVT2 will be airing Swedish House Mafia’s ”Take One” documentary just before the live telecast from Summerburst at 20:00 CET.

A reminder of how it went down last year (make sure you watch it in 720p):

SPG Live presents the first issue of Summerburst Festival in Sweden. As the horde of electronic dance music lovers emerged the vast venue of Stockholm Stadion for the first ever one day-festival in the capital, an intense setting of the industry’s finest DJ’s were collected to serve the over 10 000 strong crowd up with a whooping 10 hour of genuine and uplifting sounds of House and all its elements.

The majority being some of Sweden’s peerless exports within House music, the event was also crammed with a massive, two hour set from France’s superstar David Guetta whom, with a string of hits under his belt, rocked the arena in and out. Opening up with the Axtone and Ultra-signed artist Adrian Lux – whose crafting of Teenage Crime last Summer has elevated him to the very top – and his impeccable liking for a sublime and extensive selection of records, the day proceeded with a short, but keen set from Chromeo’s Winter and a stunning offering from the two Swedes behind Dada Life, which set was pushed forward a bit due to another festival gig alongside Lux later that very evening. As John Dahlback picked up one of his favorized vocalists, Erik Hassle, to open up his set with the performance one of Dahlback’s new singles the show continued with his distinguished and catchy sounds. Due to flight delay, Calvin Harris could not make his set time, which was placed into the hands of Stockholm native and renowned DJ/producer Sebjak, shedding light on a few new pieces some air time, including his new single alongside Johan Wedel and AN21 & Max Vangeli’s remix for Swedish House Mafia. Adrian Lux - 14:40 – 15:35

Having made some serious splashes in the digital pond with 2010’s beautified Strawberry and the hugely acclaimed Axtone instalment, Teenage Crime – a major Summer hit that is still getting hammered by the likes of some of the greatest within the industry, Summerburst is in for a treat as the new single Boy has been fired across for press. Adrian Lux has had a steady ascent into the electronic dance music industry and is still going strong as his latest remix alongside talented Swedish duo Nause of Bullets has been an absolute killer weapon of mass destruction on dancefloors across the globe lately. His distinguished and uplifting sound has led to indenture with the influential and world renowned Ultra Records. As premiered just a couple of months back in his show at Ambassadeur, Fire is the 2011 follow-up to his 2010 trademarker and is certain to be a headliner amongst this year’s releases of his. Being one of the greatest Swedish exports within the electronic dance music aristocracy, Lux is now preparing the release of his remix of the legendary Daft Punk and their Derezzed single, taken from their most recent soundtrack album for Disney’s Tron: Legacy movie.

Dada Life – 16:00 – 16:55

Having caught the attention of superstar Tiësto and his wide fanbase, Dada Life has certainly had an admirable journey, from the release of The Great Fashionista Swindle in 2007 to the riot on streets across Los Angeles earlier this year, fueled by the shut-down of the Swedish duo’s live show on Avalon. Their distinguished and soulful productions have given birth to several chart-topping singles, which resulted in global buzzes about the notorious innovativeness of the two Swede’s. Since the sensational rework of Benny Benassi’s legendary Satisfaction to the groundbreaking bleeps of Unleash The Fucking Dada, Dada Life rocked 2010 in and out, scoring the anthem for Tomorrowland alongside the national brothers Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike and istalling themselves on the influential Be Yourself Music with the eminent Cookies With A Smile. As the reputable duo entered 2011, the out-and-out fans saw Dada Life bring White Noise / Red Meat and Fight Club Is Closed (It’s Time For Rock ‘N’ Roll) to the top.

Dada Life – Fight Club Is Closed (It’s Time For Rock ‘N’ Roll)

John Dahlback with guest vocalist Erik Hassle – 17:00 – 17:55

He’s probably one of the most distinguished producers within electronic dance music and with a global major under his belt, Swedish John Dahlback’s career has been nothing but astounding. His timeless signature sound has paved the way for successes in most House genres. Although his preferences are leaning towards scoring smashers by himself, the highly respected Dahlback has been doing his share of collaborations during the 21st century, teaming up with artists like Avicii, Sebastian Ingrosso and more recently – the newly launched DJ and production outfit alongside Albin Myers named MyBack. As his beloved Mutants imprint reached star status upon a prestigious collection of releases on their shelves, Dahlback’s innovativeness knows no boundaries and has been one of the main force behind the eminent ascent of the label. Following the long-awaited release of Flirt on Erick Morillo’s Subliminal, the Swede has already been responsible for numerous hits this year and recently unveiled a bunch of new productions lined up for the press as well.
John Dahlback feat. Andy P – You’re In My Heart

Calvin Harris – 18:00 – 18:55

He blew up from Scotland and the corners of Dumfries in 2007 with the catchy Acceptable In The 80’s, but it was 2009’s glorious I’m Not Alone that established Calvin Harris among producer’s within the industry and led to the starting shot of the Calvin Harris-frenzy. Not until the release of Flashback, success was a limitless fact of the result of countless plays of the Scotsman’s groundbreaking singles on every major and minor dance event across the globe and was a crucial reason to his distinction as the ”Best Dancefloor Filler” at the NME Awards in 2009. Harris’ imperial array of spectacular qualities, including a wide production knowledge as well as that sensuous voice of his, has paved the way for his eminent reputation as a major player behind the decks. 2010 begun and You Used To Hold Me and the remnants of his collaboration alongside Tiesto steadily emerged the centre of electronic dance music to further prevail Harris’ prestigious character. As the staggering Awooga successfully kickstarted his year of 2011 off, the Scotsman has just announced his new single alongside influential singer from New York, Kelis lined up for the Sony Music press on June 12th.

Calvin Harris feat. Kelis – Bounce

Eric Prydz – 19:00 – 20:25

Pryda. Cirez D. Eric Prydz. The man of many names has, since his initial appearance as number one on the global peak charts with the major radio hit from 2004, launched a total of three record label’s, all which serve the purpose of the mastermind himself, started his own family as well as conquering the complete industry with his innovative and magnificent sound. He’s become a highly-regarded producer and icon of the underground scene, starring as the brilliant man behind several smashers under numerous aliases and production outfits. His imaginative crafts have influenced and inspired up and coming producers over a bare decade and led to the respected safe hold of camp Prydz. The peerless sounds of Niton and Pjanoo and many others have surpassed the names of success by all means as his name stands at the heart of a prevailing music genre. The Swede just uncovered his new and groundbreaking live show, appropriately named EPIC. Frankly, epic doesn’t even come close to describing the endless insight of Mr. Prydz and as he’s just announced the release of the next EP on Pryda Recordings is due out shortly, his appearance at the vast arena in Stockholm is nothing but anticipated.

Pryda – Niton

Avicii – 20:30 – 21:55

The golden boy from Sweden has gone from an unkown bedroom producer to an all-arounded, hugely-acclaimed superstar of its true kind in a bare couple of years. Touring the world, collaborating with some of the greatest, including Tiesto and Sebastian Ingrosso, and producing unstoppable anthems are results of the mastermind’s much-admired back catalogue. As 2010’s chart-topping Bromance is still doing wonders on clubs and festivals, Avicii is all about the ever so uplifting sounds of melodic house that has propelled him to the forefront of the industry. A publicly loved icon that, with the stunning achievements from last year under his belt, peerlessly is headed towards limitless recognition in 2011. Having fired away his sublime rework of the immortal Daft Punk, this year is crammed with tunes lined up for release like Silhouettes, Nothing Without You and Levels to name a few. The instantly memorable version of Eurythmics’ almighty Sweet Dreams has been an epic juggernaut on dancefloor’s. Frankly, epic doesn’t even come close to describing the magnitude of that killer cut of a tune. From the sun-splashed tones of Penguin to the dizzying sounds of Blessed, the man, responsible for waving the industry with a revolution of piano house, has got some serious anthems prepared to kickstart the Summer off with a burst in his fellow hometown Stockholm.

Avicii – Levels

David Guetta – 22:00 – 00:00

Responsible for numerous hit singles, French David Guetta has managed to affirm himself as a common name on charts across the globe. As the release of Just A Little More Love alongside vocalist Chris Willis in 2001 was far away from inglorious, his highly successful career scampered away and when dropping what might’ve been the tune of the last decade – the established Love Is Gone which has been a validated floorfiller the past couple of years, he was elevated to a firm headliner of the electronic dance music industry. The highly-regarded Frenchman has, ever since, scored dozens of smashers such as When Love Takes Over, Sexy Bitch and Gettin’ Over among others, crossing path with the rest of the music world. His highly prosperous collaborations with such familiar names as Akon, Kid Cudi and Rihanna has resulted in the complete music industry facing the rapid advancement of the house scene. His continuously increasing fanbase is undoubtedly the positive result of his challenged choice of collaborations. As the reverncing Where Them Girls At is doing unstoppable climbs on charts all around, Guetta is sure ready to seize Stockholm as a top-tier headliner in June.

AFTER PARTIES

Nervo

The Australian Nervo twins return to Stockholm and the halls of White Room with their new collaborations alongside Avicii in full swing. Although they draw sword alongside French David Guetta and American pop star Kelly Rowland in 2009, starring as the masterminds behind the lyrics of the chart-topping When Love Takes Over, the sisters’ first solo smash-single didn’t reach the light of day until the Miami festivals of last year in shape of the extraordinary This Kind Of Love. As their trademarker helped Nervo travel the world to make career for themselves, including the headlining position in 2010’s major Face-Lift tour alongside Paul Oakenfold and Chuckie, it did not take long until Nervo yet again joined forces with the sensitivity of Ollie James’ voice to present the feel-good floorfiller Irresistible, as premiered by Pete Tong in his prestigious Essential Selection on BBC Radio 1. They’re behind the lyrics of hits from reputed icons within the music industry, including Kesha, Pussycat Dolls, Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue and Armin Van Buuren among others, which led to a worldwide recording deal with the EMI, joining in on the artist stab alongside Swedish House Mafia and many more.

When: 5th of June, 00:00-05:00

Nervo feat. Ollie James – Irresistible (Extended Mix)

Thomas Gold

As the name suggests, German’s earnest DJ and producer was, by some, selected the golden boy of 2010 and has had global prosperities with his vibrant sound. Success has been unavoidable for Thomas Gold as he struck the industry with the devastating force of his firmly appealing anthem alongside Alex Kenji in late of last year. As the dynamics of his remarkable single on Toolroom exploded onto the House scene, Gold marched towards Dirty South’s well-known Phazing towers, putting his head together with Spain’s David Tort and David Gausa. The limitless energy of Areena has led to worldwide cognisance as well as being one of the origin’s to two beheld instalments on Size Records, including the groundbreaking AGORa that reached some serious acclamation, and Blowing Up a remix alongside the regally influential remixer Axwell for his esteemed Axtone Records. With that said, we can surely state there’s nothing short of Gold for the German. It’s been announced that the two recently named masterminds have been cooped up in the studio during Spring, crossing swords yet again to crusade the industry with Sing To Me – a new collaboration them in between that’s told to contain the uplifting sounds of the ”massive big room synths” according to Mr. Gold himself.
