Mark Knight’s Toolroom Records continue their output of quality House music with a bouncy, new original release from long-serving Spaniard ATFC and Italian duo The Cube Guys. Reeling in the exotic poolside appeal that Toolroom have become all-too adept in providing amid their global romps, ‘Work’ gets funky with a chugging groove alongside the occasional vocal chant. A solid contender for this year’s Miami Music Week, ‘Work’ fails to disappoint and is a reassuring indicator that these European House veterans are still at large for 2013.

Among the cheesy European assets and immorally mainstream movements of House music, France’s Punky Blaster have kept it as pure and accessible as possible with their sights set on the distinct grooves that Mark Knight’s Toolroom Records have become synonymous with. Dealing in infectious vocal stylings and a strong fusion of dynamic disco grooves and solid House beats, ‘Missin’ is sure to be a fond post-summer favourite on the grounds of its uncompromised energy and old school spirit from the first note.

With Rogerseventytwo and The Cube Guys taking on remix duties to make for a groove-induced package throughout, the ‘Missin’ EP is a poignant reminder that outside of the oversubscribed realms of Electronic music, thoroughbred House music can still exist.

Phats and Small’s ‘Turn Around’ remains one of the most distinctive House anthems to have blessed the clubs and airwaves alike for over a decade. But unsatisfied with the instant classic in its purer form, Italian House duo The Cube Guys set out to revisit its unfathomable energy with a 21st century remodel for the approaching summer season.

While the originals unmistakable vocal line was never going to be omitted or desecrated in the processes of remaking this landmark moment in soulful House music for the masses, The Cube Guys respectfully plough an infectious groove-laden backbone into ‘Turn Around’ to give it an unpretentious and ultimately uplifting revamp. Where some previous revisits of instant classics have proven more cringe worthy than awe-inspiring, the daring Italian duo preserve the integrity of Phats and Small’s masterpiece while proving its ongoing resonance within 21st century club music.
