In a similar vein as their remix of ‘Dancin Dancin,’ Australian pair Denzal Park build a grinding canvas of strong lead work with a melodic twist, leaving it to Miami producer Henrix to round out the remix package with a minimalistic, festival-friendly take.

With the weather on the side of the 24,000 strong crowd gathered in Stockholm, day one of the second leg of Sweden’s Summerburst Festival saw it’s perfect weather matched by a ‘who’s who’ line-up of sterling Dance artists.

Hitting the stage just after 3pm, Stockholm’s own Sebjak comfortably took to stage to formally launch the festival’s line-up. Armed with his recent vocal outing ‘Follow Me’, the young Swede pushed through a strong set of Progressive gems for the somewhat thin crowd. Fresh off the heels of his debut compilation for Axtone and a blistering appearance at EDC Las Vegas, Germany’s Thomas Gold had few excuses not to bring his A-Game to Stockholm. Soaring through a host of personal edits and mash-ups alongside the multitude of high-end remixes that ornamented his compilative duties, Gold’s creative approach to live House music was not wasted upon the crowds at Summerburst.

Renowned for his abillity to float seamlessly between outright crowd pleasers to dignified club gems, young Dutch maverick Nicky Romero remained as dexterous as ever in yet another firm extension of his festival charm. Between collaborative highlights alongside David Guetta and Avicii, his juggling of the genres more heavyset avenues was music to the ears of the thickening crowd. Having set the standard for his nations House minded elite, young Ingrosso protégé Alesso then received something of a heroes welcome from the steadily rising crowd in Stockholm. Trailing through a divergent set of peak timers and skilful mash-ups, the Swede signed off with his own triumphant remix of Keane’s ‘Silenced By The Night’ and the now chart-raking Ingrosso collaboration ‘Calling (Lose My Mind) to emphasise just how far he and his EDM leaning nation have come over the past two years of definitive genre contribution.

Given the standard of his headline action at the Gothenburg leg of Summerburst, Axwell’s second homeland festival outing this month was never going to be played down. Providing a strong Axtone spin on his relatively open-minded set, the crowd were evidently engulfed by the enigmatic presence of one of the country’s most sought after House associates on offer. While the brief interludes of Swedish House Mafia material did not go unnoticed, his ongoing plight to bring worthy new talent to the table saw his set engage the best of EDM’s rising protagonists for a landmark homeland appearance.

As one of the original European festival DJs and a formative presence amid the genre’s explosion, the now Stockholm residing Tiësto looked as comfortable as ever as he took to the stage to sign-off day one of Summerburst. Balancing the best cuts from his renowned Club Life Volume Two: Miami compilation and his own multitude of productions, the Dutch icon’s ability to fuse radio friendly notions into epic festival moments made for a distinctive climax from a man well accustomed to the biggest movements in Electronic music.

Despite a notable turn in the good fortuned weather mustered by day one of Summerburst, round two of the Stockholm leg made up for the notable lull with a strong line-up of artists. Without letting the thinner crowds effect their earlier set time, Swedish newcomers Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman took to the stage just after 2pm to extend their festival experience with a worthy set of their own forthcoming material. Followed promptly by Copenhagen’s Morten Breum and hometown front runners Nause, returning Swedish contender Adrian Lux made light of his omission from the formal line-up in Gothenburg with accustomed force. Armed with a host of melodic highlights from his self-titled album for Ultra Records, a sense of national pride resonated throughout this well-overdue festival appearance from the young face of emotive Progressive House. Taking to the stage just after 6pm, Holland’s rising festival tag-team Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano educated Stockholm as to just why they have been present at every major EDM festival on offer. Jumping from Tech induced beat work to their hip shaking Progressive stylings, the Dutch duos intense set did not quite capture the strong reaction that their global legacy has mustered.

Next up was chart-hopping Scot Calvin Harris, a man immediately familiar with European festival etiquette. Between a collection of floor-filling gems and his own radio friendly offerings alongside Example and Kelis, Harris provided an unassuming mainstream charm that left few arms out of the air for the duration of his set.

There could have been few prouder returns to the homeland than day two’s first instalment of headline action from dignified Progressive master Sebastian Ingrosso. In what Ingrosso himself dubbed to be his best individual gig ever, his sign-off with Swedish House Mafia’s ‘Save The World’ would see fellow mafia man Axwell take to the stage to announce the trios Swedish debut performance at Stockholm’s Friends Arena on November 24, throwing the 24,000 strong crowd into a final celebratory sing-along. Despite Ingrosso’s stealing of the show, French chart monger David Guetta remained an exciting sign-off for the successful summer event. Throwing an array of IDs into the mix alongside a collection of festival favourites and chart-worthy contenders, Guetta’s safe yet solid set proved a worthy final note, but remained untouched by the excitement caused by the aforementioned announcement of Sweden’s returning House veterans that made Summerburst in Stockholm 2012 all the more memorable.

Not taking their exclusive signing to EMI Music with any half measures, Sweden’s Dimitri Vangelis and Wyman follow up their major label debut ‘Roll The Dice’ with formative summer contender ‘Russia’. Despite being a somewhat misleading a title for the work of Scandinavia’s hottest rising House properties, the duo fuse grinding Electro chords with eclectic lead work to forge a well-oiled amalgamation of Progressive tinted festival fuel. Laced with a consistent shot of adrenaline and some notable production values for the rising Swede hopefuls, a little time at the big top seems to be keeping Vangelis and Wyman rather on track for 2012.

With the remains of their latest single release ‘Roll The Dice‘ still doing the rounds, Swedish duo Dimitri Vangelis and Wyman’s return for round two of their exciting signing to Virgin Records. While the majority of their previous works may have been laden in perky synths, their second mark in 2012 sees the Stockholm duo wander out of their comfort zone for their possibly best work to date. Dealing in grinding and emotively charged chords as well as an array of pumping beats, ‘Russia’ is an epitome of why many have deemed them to be one of the more notable break-throughs this year.

‘Russia’ is released on May 21st via Virgin Records.

Just when you thought the Swedish House invasion could not spit out any more promising House assets, along came Stockholm’s Dimitri Vangelis and Wyman. Having already laid solid offerings for Joia sub-label Nero and excelled remix duties for DJ DLG and Jus Jack, the promising Swede duo descend upon EMI to don one of their most detailed assaults on global Dance music to date. Ditching the typecasts with a genuinely moving assortment of melodic rises and vibrant chord play, ‘Roll The Dice’ is an unexpected peak in the country’s young and determined movement.

Tranisitioning to uplifting synth leads that build into an overtly incredible injection of positive energy and consistently tuned energy, their major label debut may not have all the makings for a once in a life time event, but there is something distinctly untouchable about the heights attained by their undisturbed knack for taking the familiar and making it their own. With Miami on the cards and further remixes set to drop on the road to their time to shine on American soil, the duo need not gamble on hitting all the right notes with this offering leading the way.

Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman – Roll The Dice

Words by Dan Carter

The aspiring Dimitri Vangelis and Wyman are back to take on the titan foursome from London that is Coldplay. Whilst Swedish House Mafia, Fedde Le Grand and Tiësto are successfully dibbling their own remixes on two tracks off the rock group’s latest studio album, the Stockholm duo make a go at an acclaimed offspring off of Coldplay’s second studio album, released in 2002, and are consequently picking up on the trend to render club cuts of one of the biggest music acts of our time. After a prolific year that has been jam packed with a host of remixes to Free,Call My NameVisions Of LoveBoom and a single with The Funktuary named Ignited to only name a few, the two return to shed light on their frisky take on The Scientist.

Atop the heavenly sing-along vocals of lead singer Chris Martin, the Swede’s add a catchy whistle and fundamental piano chords to make up a peerless break-down. Followed by a plump synth drop with powerfully pounding kicks and perfectly pitched upper layers, the club revamp of ‘The Scientist’ is due to fuel the ingeniousness of the pair into further recognition and build upon the reputation of being a duo with a bright future ahead.

The Dimitri Vangelis and Wyman version of ‘The Scientist’ is now out to download for free!
